Miami Beach is famous for its short skirts and late nights, but today we discovered a very different scene: On the peaceful Espanola Way, we had lunch at A La Folie, a sweet creperie that might as well be in the French countryside…

We pored over the menu for ages (everything looked so good!) but finally chose a crepe with mushrooms and gruyere, and another with spinach and goat cheese. Owner Olivier Corre’s mother hails from Brittany (birthplace of the crepe!), and he uses sarrasin, a rare buckwheat, to make his savory crepes taste authentic.

Rich and satisfying, the meal evoked the same happy feeling that I get at my favorite creperie in Paris. We debated getting the butter-and-sugar version for dessert (the French eat seventeen pounds of butter per person annually, so it just felt right), but we somehow managed to muster up willpower.

Everyone ended up happy.
