Plane Snack: Nougat (Do You Love It Or Hate It?)
A French Airplane Picnic
Julia Child said that, instead of airplane food, she’d rather eat a peanut butter-honey sandwich; and I couldn’t agree more. Airplane food is terrible and makes you feel even worse. So, these days, whenever I take a long flight, I always pack a little plane picnic.
For our flight from New York to Miami, I brought along:
* Chabichou. At my neighborhood cheese shop, I had requested a not-too-stinky cheese (I didn’t want my seat mates to hate me), and they gave me this mini tower of goat cheese with a soft rind and bloomy flavor.
* Crusty French bread.
* And, of course, a half bottle of red wine from the flight attendants to wash it all down.
So much better than stale peanuts!

Today, we headed from New York to Miami, and, as I packed my bags, I channeled my favorite French movies…

* A striped cotton shirt from Normandy, like Jean Seberg wore in Breathless.

* Classic black leggings.
* PARISIENNE perfume, naturally.

* Bensimon sneakers (the French girl’s Converse).
* A Rhodia notepad, from Alsace, France, for scribblings.
