When we want the perfect little silk dress, cuffed tweed shorts, or the most expertly tailored black jacket, we go to designer Alice Ritter, who really has a knack for merging classic French-girl style with a modern-girl attitude.

So, when wanted a little extra Parisienne schooling, we asked Alice to take us to her favorite homey haunt, Bakeri in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. “Brooklyn reminds me so much of Paris because there is a slower pace, litle places for lunch, trees, all the markets, and incredible older women out on the street,” she says. “I come to this bakery everyday, not only because it’s around the corner from my apartment, but because the quality of the product, the atmosphere…it’s very close to the way we live in Europe.”

While Alice’s raves about the brioche were completely on target, we also snuck a taste of some freshly baked leek tart and a hazelnut chocolate-chip cookie deliciously accented with fresh rosemary and coarse salt. “The cheese shop on Bedford, these two guys who make chocolate on North 3rd…all the hand-crafted foods really reminds me of Paris.” But the brioche with a morning latte: “It’s a Marcel Proust experience,” Alice says. “The gesture itself is just totally French!”
